The department was founded in 1942 and initially was called «Descriptive Geometry & Drawing».

The Department of Engineering Graphics performs graph-geometrical training for students with full-time, part-time and correspondence modes of study in the following Samara university structural subdivisions:

• Institute of Space Rocket Engineering,
• Institute of Engine and Power Plant Engineering,
• Institute of Aeronautical engineering,
• Institute of IT, Mathematics and Electronics,

The department has its own study rooms: 7 auditoriums for working with traditional drawings and 3 computer labs, which are equipped with personal computers for simultaneous operation of a full-size student group.

At the Department of Engineering Graphics students study the following disciplines:

• descriptive geometry,
• graphic editors,
• principles of geometric modeling,
• engineering graphics,
• computer graphics.

The department is a general technical one, however, at the Aircraft Engines Faculty its work is completely coordinated with educational process of departments, which graduate students. The department implement a unique system of graph-geometrical training, which notable for: widespread use of 3D models for parts and assembly units, performance of all graphic tasks for engineering graphics in electronic form, integration of graphic works with tasks of other departments.
